Water Wash-Away (#3012)
Description
The Hook: The "Zero-Trace" foundation for elite embroidery. Achieve the structural rigidity of a heavyweight backing for lace and sheers, then watch the evidence vanish completely under warm water—leaving nothing behind but your stitches.
What It Is: Water Wash-Away (#3012) is a heavy-duty, fibrous water-soluble stabilizer engineered for the precision world of Free-Standing Lace (FSL) and ultra-sheer fabrics. Unlike film-based solubles that can "perforate" under high needle density, the fibrous matrix of #3012 interlocks with your embroidery threads, creating a rock-solid foundation that maintains its dimensional integrity before dissolving 100% cleanly in the wash.
Application Guidelines:
- The Free-Standing Lace (FSL) Standard: This is the industry benchmark for FSL. By hooping two layers of #3012, you create a self-supporting canvas that allows you to stitch complex lace designs with no fabric at all. Once rinsed, you are left with soft, professional lace.
- Sheer & Semi-Transparent Fabrics: When working with organza, silk, or sheer linens, you cannot afford a "stabilizer shadow." #3012 provides the necessary support to prevent puckering during the stitch-out and disappears entirely once laundered, leaving the garment perfectly drapable.
- Variable Finish Control: You decide the final texture. For a soft, natural hand, rinse thoroughly in warm water. For items like lace ornaments that require structural stiffness, simply rinse lightly to leave a hint of the stabilizer’s natural "starch" in the fibers.
⚠️ CRUCIAL LABORATORY WARNING:
This is a BACKING, not a Topping. Because it is water-soluble, it is often confused with film toppings. #3012 goes underneath your fabric to support needle penetrations. If you are trying to keep stitches from sinking into fluffy fabrics like towels or fleece, you need RinseAway Topping. Using #3012 on top of a garment is overkill and won't provide the "loft" you're looking for.
Laboratory Pro-Tips:
- Needle Science: For the cleanest results on FSL, use an Organ 75/11 Sharp needle. The sharp point creates a clean perforation in the fibrous matrix, ensuring your satin columns remain crisp and your outlines stay locked.
- Storage Secret: Soluble stabilizers are "hygroscopic"—they eat humidity. Always store your #3012 in a sealed, air-tight bag to prevent it from becoming tacky or brittle before you're ready to use it.
